Join the Scallywags
One of the most anticipated fall events in Panama City Beach is the Pirates of the High Seas Fest. This free festival takes pirate fun to a new level by honoring legendary townspeople and pirates who once defended the city against unfriendly pirate attacks.
Bring the whole family to the festival, and enjoy three days of activities, food, entertainment, and to show your pirate pride. Visitors can also participate in a scavenger hunt, see pirate invasions, watch two parades, and enjoy live music and fireworks. On Sunday, head over to Captain Anderson’s Marina, where families can go on a treasure hunt, enter a pirate costume contest, and enjoy fishing and storytelling.
Pack up and hit the open road to the Panama City Beach Fall Motorcycle Rally. Most venues host rally activities at the east end of Thomas Drive, between the Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort and Newby’s Too. The event welcomes visitors to ride along the beach, check out bike shows, enter contests and more. In addition, many restaurants and nightlife spots welcome bikers to try fresh seafood, drinks and see live music. Dozens of local businesses in Panama City Beach accommodate bikers and encourage them shop for souvenirs, parts, custom pieces, and provide additional services, such as storage. Jazz lovers can’t miss the two-day 16th Annual Jazz By The Bay Festival, held at the Oaks by the Bay Park in St. Andrews. This annual event has showcased jazz musicians from all over since 2001 and is sponsored by the Gulf Jazz Society. Guests will enjoy free admission, 10 hours of live music over the two days, as well as opportunities to try local foods and shop vendors. Visitors are also advised to bring their own lawn chairs for comfort.
Headlining the 2016 event is Terry “Doc” Handy and his seven-piece band from Jacksonville, FL, who have played with music greats such as James Brown and Macy Gray. Other live acts hail from Fort Walton, Destin and Latin America, providing a diverse mix of sounds and beats.
Walk for a Cause
Get exercise and help a good cause at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk hosted by Aaron Bessant Park. This event strives to raise funds and awareness while honoring those who have battled breast cancer. This non-competitive 5K walk not only raises money for a charitable cause, but also allows participants to meet locals and see the area in a new way. The event is free to all, but make sure to register for the event.
